Healthy Diets by Saloni Kothari

This Company was created by me as it followed my own story where I happened to gain 20 kgs of weight 6 years back due to my pregnancy. I was also going through a bad Phase Health wise. One day I decided to start my own journey in a positive way where I managed to lose 20 kgs of weight and gain back my confidence. That’s what became my passion and it led me to study nutrition and put my step forward in building Healthy Diets by Saloni Kothari.

It’s a motivation to work and learn new things everyday as health and nutrition is a vast subject. The diet what I plan, is based on healthy living wherein I believe it’s not a temporary plan, but a permanent lifestyle adaptation that you gain following the diet plan by me. It is necessary to understand the importance of healthy eating as many people believe in short term diets as they expect faster results but the reality check is when they gain access weight once they stop the short term diet plans. If you eat all the nutrients in a balanced quantity you will never be deficient of any micro nutrients. Healthy Diets by Saloni Kothari aims at making the plan so interesting with a lot of variant options provided for all the meals which doesn’t lead to boredom while following the diet plan.

Five Tips to follow during Lockdown that would keep you Healthy

  • Drink about 1.5 to 2 litres of water every day. This may sound like a lot but its essential. Because we sit in Air Conditioned rooms and are focussed towards work, we supress our natural tendency to drink water. But that suppression is what is leading to hypertension and kidney stones. In women it leads to UTI. Fun fact – Brain is 80% water. If you want to be fresh and energised throughout the day, drink water throughout the day.
  • Eat Fresh fruits and vegetables. Even if you hate them, eat them as a medicine. There are more than 200 diseases that are caused by not eating FRESH produce. We are lucky living in India where the price of fresh produce is less than processed foods. In the western and developed countries it’s the opposite. So use the advantage that you have to live longer and healthier
  • NEVER EVER SKIP BREAKFAST. I cannot stress this enough. During the night the body slows down. It doesnot reactivate unless its given a boost of energy. That’s why its essential to have a good breakfast. Not just have a light beverage. Have a good breakfast and you will see the difference in energy levels throughout the day. You may have a light lunch and dinner. But never a light breakfast.
  • Make a list of things that you want to get from the supermarket and stick to it. This will subconsciously help you not to buy Junk and Sugars that are toxins for your body (Accordingly to me, its sugar that is slowly decreasing your life). Avoid processed foods.
  • I believe that every body is a different. So its no point generalizing the Diets. What will work for one person, might not work for someone else. So leave a message on my facebook or Instagram page @Healthy Diets by Saloni Kothari. I will be sure to reply to all your queries. Also don’t forget to like us.

How to Maintain a Commercial Weighing Scale?

10 Steps to Maintain a Commercial Weighing Scale

  • Service it regularly

This is ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY. A Weighing scale is just like any other piece of Machinery. It needs Maintenance and care. If you donot have the time to do it, you can outsource this to Hindustan Scale Company (HSCo) with an AMC plan. This includes four preventive maintenance visits of the weighing scale and the Government Stamping costs.

  • Change the battery at least once in Two years

The batteries that HSCo uses in weighing scale will give you 465 cycles of complete charging and discharging cycles. This means that you can completely charge and discharge the battery 465 times, before the battery starts losing its power to hold the charge. In short, the more you use the battery, the more frequently it will have to be replaced.

If you use the scale in an area which has frequent power cuts, then you would need to change the battery preferably once in a year. On the other hand, if you use the scales continuously on power supply and rarely on battery, you may change the battery once in two years.

We would recommend that once in a week, let your scale run completely on the battery until it discharges. Then plug it in to let it charge as usual. This will keep the acid active in the Battery.

If your battery is not working and you use the scale only on light, you would probably think that its ok. Well its not. The reason is that there are various ICs in the motherboard of the scale that need power even when the scale is switched off. The batter does this. If your battery doesnot work, then your scale may show you erratic weights.

  • Stamp it by the Government once a year

Well, if you don’t do this, you are liable for a fine of upto 25,000/-. The stamping would be a fraction of this cost. Why do you want to risk it? It’s not worth it.

Also, before being verified by the Legal Metrology Department, you scale will be thoroughly checked by the Inspectors. They will reject the scale if it shows you the wrong weight. Atleast that is the time. If not earlier, that you will get to check the weighing scale.

If you are covered under the HSCO – CARE Plan, then HSCo will take care of the Legal Metrology Stamping and you donot need to worry about it. For the rest of the guys. Please be careful of the fine. Its really steep.

What is Government Stamping and Why is it So Important?

  • Check the scale with a stand weight at the start of the new day

Take a weight that is approximate 10% of your scale’s weighing capacity and keep it handy. Check the weight at the start of each day when you start using the scale. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL FOR PRECISION SCALES, because slight humidity and pressure changes can change the reading of high precision scale. Invest in Weights. It will pay for itself within- months.

  • Keep it away from Moisture.

Moisture affects the motherboard and all electronic components of the weighing scale. The more the moisture, the more the problems in the weighing scales. I have written a blog on how to protect your weighing scale from moisture. Read the blog here.

Just a note. All HSCo Weighing Scale use the Blue Whale Technology Motherboards (BWT) that are moisture resist.

Why is Technology so important in weighing scales?

What is the Advantage of a Waterproof Scale?

  • Always ensure that the scale has a constant power supply and there is no fluctuations in power

Erratic power is bad for any electronic Device. An electronic Scale is no exception. Always use a power supply that gives a constant power supply. IN cities, you may get a stable supply. In smaller towns the power fluctuations are more common. Same is the case when its an MIDC area or an area where there is a community generator.

HSCo scales use an internal power stabilizer chips that would be able to filter out most of the peaks and troughs in the power supply. However, its advisable to use a spike guard

  • Donot overload the scale

This is an Absolute No. Overloading will rupture your Loadcell, and your weighing scale will become useless. NEVER EVER overload the Weighing scale.

HSCo Scales use Loadcell that are rated 100% its overload capacity. That means that if there is a 100 kg weighing scale, we use a 200 kg Loadcell to manufacture it. And the Loadcell also has a 100% overload capacity. Meaning that the 200 kg Loadcell can tolerate 400 kg of force on its application point. However, we still recommend that you donot overload the weighing scales.

  • Don’t bang your product on the scale

The Loadcell (even known as the sensor) of the weighing scale is rated in terms of KgF. This means it measures force rather than weight. So when you bang something on the Weighing scales plate, the equivalent amount of force is transmitted to the Load Cell. If the Force is more than the rated maximum force, then the Loadcell will rupture and you will have to replace it.

  • Charge the battery regularly

The battery gives a constant power supply to all the processors and components of the weighing scale. Like your mobile phone, it has to be charged regularly.

  • Keep your Weights and Measures Certificate Handy,

As per law, you have to display the Legal Meteorology Certificate prominently where the weighing scale is being used. Else you are liable for a fine. So if you have not already done, put the certificate in a accessible location where the customer and user of the weighing scale can see it. Keep the certificate like this, will also constantly remind you of when is the stamping due date.

How to Select the Best Kitchen Weighing Scales in 5 easy Steps

How to Select the Best Kitchen Scale in 5 easy Steps

Why do you use a Kitchen Scale? To make your cakes and breads. To measure the cream, you are about to put in your Pasta. Or maybe if you are extremely rich – To weigh your gold ornaments. For whatever purpose you are using the kitchen scale, you have to be sure, it gives you the right weight every time.

You may visit the ALPHA Scales website at

Kitchen Scale with SS PlateTo make sure you purchase the best kitchen scale, follow the below steps

  • The Company is Registered with the Legal Meteorology Department of India.

You may ask, why is this necessary. That’s because most of the weighing scales that are shipped to customers are not even tested by the dealer. If it’s not tested, how do we know its showing the right weight. Well, a Government License holder will have to verify each scale from the Legal Meteorology Department and only then they can sell it further. While getting it verifies, the scale gets thoroughly tested for not only the accuracy, but also the durability. If you buy such weighing scales on Amazon or Flipkart, in most cases, it has absolutely no guarantee that the weight is right.

  • The Scale is made of Food Grade Materials.

Look for this declaration on the packaging. If its not there, there is a high chance its made of carcinogenic materials. You definitely don’t want to take things measured on this, in your body. Also Food Grade Materials are more resistant to cracks and dents, hereby increasing the life of the scale.

Kitchen Scale

  • It has to be Water Resist and Heat Resistant

In kitchen what are the two most familiar elements… Definitely water and fire. So isn’t it logical that your weighing scale has to be Water and Hear Resistant. Also when you are using the weighing scale, your hands may be dirty. The scales would be washed regularly and also, just in case oil or something else could just spill over the scale that has to be cleaned. If the scale is not water Resistant, that would be the last day of your precious possession

  • It should have a Tare Button

In 9 out of 10 times, you will first put a container on the weighing scale, then put the contents in the container and then weigh. Instead of sitting with a calculator in the kitchen doesn’t it make more sense that the weight of the container can be subtracted from the total weight giving you the net weight of the ingredients. This functionality is introduced by the TARE button.

  • You should be Able to Repair it

All Electronic Scales will invariably go bad. So they must be able to be services and repaired. DONOT buy weighing scales that cannot be serviced. Also Always take a warranty and make sure that the warranty is enforceable. This also means avoid buying online from Marketplaces like AMAZON and FLIPKART as the seller is sitting in a remote village and there is no question of getting it services.

I have not mentioned the price aspect anywhere. If you buy a cheap Scale, it will invariably go bad and will not have a life expectancy as you would have in mind. If you spend a little more, you will get a Guaranteed Product with all the necessary certifications and documents. A kitchen scale from Hindustan Scale Company – Alpha Series or Blue Whale Series would not cost you more than 2500 for a two Years warranty and One Year Government Stamping.

Why are HSCo Kitchen scales the best for you?

  • Hindustan Scale Company (HSCo) is Registered with the Legal Meteorology Department since 1955. We were one of the first companies to develop the Electronic Kitchen Weighing Scales. Each and every kitchen scale that we manufacture goes through rigorous testing and only after that the sent to the Government Department for their seal.
  • All of Hindustan Scale Company’s Kitchen Scales are made of Food Grade Stainless Steel or Food Grade Plastic. They are completely safe to use with all eatables. We have been supplying our kitchen scales to professional bakers, Baking and cooking classes and Food Processing companies like Lijjat Papad since 1964.
  • All of HSCo’s Kitchen scales are Water Resistant and Heat Resistant. That’s why they can be used in the harshest of conditions without any adverse effects on the Scale’s Performance.
  • All of Hindustan Scale Company’s (HSCo’s) weighing scales have a tare button that is 100% of the full Load capacity. However heavy your container is, you can zero the scale and start weighing.

All of Hindustan Scale Company’s weighing scales come with a two years’ warranty and one-year Government stamping. They will be serviced by our technicians without any hassles. We also have a partnership channel of over 1440 dealers and service centers all over the country where you scale can be taken for servicing and maintenance.

What is a BMI Scale and Should I Buy One?

Let us First Understand what is a BMI Scale

BMI stands for Body Mass Index. The BMI Value is derived from two values. The height of the person and the weights of the person. It is normally used to define of a person is overweight, normal weight or underweight or obese. Newer models also include the weight and the Sex of the person to come up with a more accurate picture of BMI.

At Hindustan Scale Company, our engineers developed a weighing scale that would take all the above parameters into consideration while giving the accurate reading of the person’s BMI reading. Hence we came up with the SRS 471 – Alpha BMI Scale model of BMI scales. The SRS 471 – Alpha BMI Scale model uses four highly sensitive Stainless Steel probes to send a ping of a very high frequency (completely harmless to humans and perfectly safe for pregnant women and children). These frequencies bounce off the head and are reflected back into the probes. Based an the resistance, frequencies and wavelengths of the return ping a complex algorithm running on Hindustan Scale Company’s (HSCo) proprietary chipset gives you the accurate BMI reading.

Why should you buy the HSCo SRS 471 – Alpha BMI Scale? Well, why shouldn’t you? It gives you more BMI parameters than any other weighing scale. HSCo SRS 471 – Alpha BMI Scale has a warranty of one year. HSCo SRS 471 – Alpha BMI Scale is made of tempered glass and even though it is slim and only 700 gms, it can take on 180 kgs of weight. Once you put in the batteries, HSCo SRS 471 – Alpha BMI Scale should work for more than 8 months without a battery change. YOU CANNOT GET A BETTER DEAL THAN HSCo SRS 471 – Alpha BMI Scale.

And yes. It costs a fraction of the cost than the more expensive BMI Scales in the market such as OMRON and similar brands.

Should I buy Weighing Scales from Amazon?

Should I Buy a Weighing Scale from Amazon?

Before answering this, my question to you is what type of scale are you planning to buy? Is it a domestic scale like a personal scale, kitchen scale, pocket scale or a luggage scale? Or is it a commercial scale that you want it for your business?

Let’s break it down into whether you want to buy Domestic Scale or Commercial scale.

If you want to buy a Domestic Scale, amazon is a good place to buy. It has got ample of sellers who offer different types of weighing scales. The range is fabulous.  However most of them are imported. So I would suggest that you buy from a reputed seller (Like Alpha ;)). Now the tricky part is that all the scales as per the Indian Metrological Department has to be stamped. Most of the sellers on Amazon donot even have a licence of selling a scale, getting it stamped from the Legal Metrological department is a far cry. But after all its for domestic purpose or home use…. So though it’s not OK, its OK. You don’t even get a GST rebate, but who cares.

Sample Warranty Card
Sample Warranty Card

Situation becomes much trickier when we come to commercial weighing scales. Because when you are doing business with a weighing scale, you definitely need to get the weights and measures certificate. Else you are in a lot of trouble. You also need to have a proper bill of the seller mentioning his GST number, his dealer/manufacturer licence number and so on. I have seen some of my customer’s order online and they have received NOTHING. The bill doesnot do not have a license number nor does it have a GST number. This is dangerous not only from the business point of view but also from the legal point of view. In addition to this, compared to the life of an imported scale, the life of a commercial scale is much longer (In our case its more than eight years). It also has a warranty associated (in our case all commercial scales have a warranty of two years). When you buy the scale from Amazon and its shipped from Haryana, how will you claim the warranty.

Additionally, there is a rule in the Legal metrology department that if the scale is more than 50 kgs in capacity then it has to have the same state stamping. In this case if the seller is in Haryana, you will have to Restamp the scale locally again.

So I am not recommending nor am I suggesting that you donot take scales from Amazon, or any online market place, but I have kept the facts in front of you.

Why is Technology so important in weighing scales?

What is the IN THING in Weighing Scales?

First we need to understand what exactly is a Digital Weighing Scale. A Weighing Scale has a Loadcell – Which is essentially a balanced wheatsons bridge connected to a potentiometer. When a force is applied the wheatson’s bridge becomes unbalanced, and gives a voltage reading at the potentiometer. This is picked up by the ADC counter and converted into a digital output that is finally displayed on the screen. Yes. That’s it, its that simple

.Wheatsons Bridge in Weighing Scales

If the above was Greek and Latin for you, in simple words, the weighing scale is a very simple device. It has a Loadcell, that detects the weight and it has an indicator that shows the weight.

Now if its so simple whey do you need technology in a weighing scale at all. It shouldn’t be that complicated right? Well, as customers want more and more features into a weighing scale, and as they demand even greater precision, that’s where technology comes in. So ten years back, you could have a weighing scale which would have nothing but a Loadcell, very rudimentary A to D convertor and the display unit. As we made more feature packed scales, we started using microprocessors, having speeds of 1500 Mhz for the weighing scale. Compare this with the chipset in 1990s where 500 Hz was more than enough.

The following is a sample chipset from Hindustan Scale Company’s Weighing Scale.HSCo Motherboard for Weighing Scales

Motherboard used in our scales in 2016

Old HSCo Weighing Scale Motherboard
Old HSCo Weighing Scale Motherboard

The newer one has atleast 200 times more processing power and 20,000 times more memory. You could run a computer on our newer version of Motherboards. We have to use this powerful Motherboards to give you a higher accuracy and sensitivity of the weighing scales. So if we say that Hindustan Scale Co (HSCo) Motherboards have an internal count of 30,00,000, it means that the Motherboard will pick up even the 1 in 30,00,000 variations in ADC count.

These weighing scale Motherboard are designed and developed by the Blue Whale Technologies – BWT

Why Should I Buy a HSCo Weighing Scales

Why should I buy a weighing scale? Do I really need a weighing scale for my Business?

Well, first let us analyze why the existence of weighing scale came into being and then we can go into the topic if you need a weighing scale or not..

Pre Historic Weighing

In the per-historic times if you needed some rice you would go in the bazaar and buy a stone worth of rice for say a stone worth of cotton. Then came along money which was a store of value. So now you went to the market and bought one stone worth of rice for 1 gm of gold (or any equivalent currency).

Now there are smart chaps who aren’t so honest after all. So instead of taking a big stone, they started using a small stone. His neighbor got inspired by the small stone and he started using a smaller stone. You get the idea. SO now there was no standardization. Hence traders started getting dishonest. The Government did not like this too much, and as usual they came us with a policy. They said that “This particular stone is 1 kg, and now onward the unit of weight will be 1 kg”. something like this. So now local grocers could not use “ANY STONE” but a stone equivalent to 1 kg or they would be shoved into the local jail.

Fast forward in todays world, you need a weighing scale to make sure that the person who is selling you the scale is honest. If you are honestly giving the seller money for 1 kg of something, he should honestly give you 1 kg of THAT something. So essentially a weighing scale is to make sure people remain honest.

Table Top Weighing Scale

So if you are in the manufacturing business and you purchase a lot of raw materials, you need a weighing scale to make sure that your supplier is giving you the right quantity. If you are in the food business, you need to make sure that your supplier is giving you the right quantity of potatoes, tomatoes, etc.

Vegetable Weighing Scales

At times you need to be sure that you are not the dishonest quack. So you need to make sure that you are giving your customers the right amount of goods that they are paying for.

At times when you go to the airport, you need to weigh your baggage so that you can save that extra money that you usually give in at the check-in counter.

Checkin Counter at Air Ports

At times you need to be honest with yourself and your health. So you need to weigh yourself regularly.

Person Checking His Weight

SO everybody needs a weighing scale, and if you don’t have one yet buy it from Hindustan Scale Company – HSCo.

All HSCo Weighing Scales are powered by Blue Whale Technology (BWT) Hardware and Software

Four Loadcell Machine Vs Single Loadcell Machine

Four Loadcell Machine Vs Single Loadcell Machine

What is a Loadcell

It is a device that measures force. Loadcells in a platform scale can measure a compression force, which is a force pushing down onto the device. Loadcells in a crane scale can measure a tension force, which is a force pulling away from the device.

Single Loadcell Machines

What is a Single Loadcell Machine

In a single Loadcell Machine, there is a central Loadcell that measures a compression force.

As shown in the figure above, if the Load is applied on the pressure plate, there is a compression force acting on the Variac because of which the internal equilibrium gets disturbed. Proportionately, the scale shows the value of pressure – in our case the weight – on the place. Most of the scales manufactured use this type of construction.

The spacer allows the Loadcell to bend in both directions so that the weight can be accurately gauged.

Advantages of a single Loadcell Machine

  • Single Loadcell machines are comparatively cheaper.
  • Construction is much simpler
  • Repair and Maintenance is easier

Disadvantages of a Single Loadcell Machine

  • If the Center of Gravity of the Weight is towards the edge of the Platform Scale then there is a sheering force on the Loadcell resulting in permanent damage to the Loadcell
  • The Single Loadcell Structures are usually not water and dust resistant
  • If heavy loads are put towards the center of the Loadcells then the sheering force will damage the structure of the Loadcell resulting in incorrect weight
  • The ground clearance of these scales is higher which is a problem for heavy weights that need to be lifted fairly off the ground
  • If the leveling of the scale is not done properly then there is a significant weight variation.

In what cases should you use a single loacell machine

  • If the loads are not too heavy, typically below 500 kgs and if the placement of the load is near the center of the loading plate i.e. close to the Center of Gravity of the Loadcell.
  • If the platform size is 750*750mm or lower.
  • If the loads are voluminous but not very heavy, like textile or cotton

Four Loadcell Machines

What is a Four Loadcell Machine

Epoxy Painted steel structure is extremely durable and prevents rusting for an extended period of time.

Adjustable feet allow leveling even on an uneven floor hereby transferring optimal force to the sensors in the Loadcells and ultimately having a more accurate reading.

Four Loadcells Configuration

Advantages of a Four Loadcell Machine

  • Since there are four sensors, even if the weight is put on the edges of the scale, the weight is accurate and the structure nor the Loadcell is at risk.
  • Usually the Loadcells used in these types of structures are IP67 or IP68 meaning that they are dust and water resistant
  • The Ground Clearance of these scales is very low which means that heavy Loads donot have to be lifted too much top load on the scale platform
  • Usually the sheer beam Loadcells used in a four Loadcell Machines are of a higher capacity hereby making it more resistant to Loading and unloading stresses, impulses and vibrations
  • Since these machines have self-adjusting screws, even if there is a small variation in the surface, the variation in weight is miniscule

In what cases should you use a 4 Loadcell machine

  • When there are heavy loads especially metals whose density is very high
  • When there is a possibility of loading the material on the edge of the scale
  • When the scale is subjected to impulse loading or stressful loading and unloading
  • When the scale is exposed to natural elements like outdoor in the yard, etc
  • When the surface where the scale is placed is not even.
  • When the Loads cannot be lifted far off the ground like in case of metals or construction site

Industries where four Loadcell machines are very popular

  • Metals
  • Construction
  • Mining
  • Agriculture
  • Oil and Gas

Which Weighing Scale is Best Suited for my Needs?

Which Weighing Scale is Best Suited for my Needs

This question is extremely subjective because it depends a lot upon the following factors

  • Which industry you are in?

  • What is the maximum that you want to weigh

  • What is the accuracy level that you desire

  • What is the product that you want to weigh

Let me explain why I am asking you these questions before I can generalize a rule to go about which is the best scale for you

  • Which Industry are you in

At Hindustan Scale Company (HSCo) we firmly believe that the industry that you are in should shape the scale that you are going to purchase. For example if you are in the retail agriculture industry and in the retail poultry industry, you would need a 30 kg scale for both since its retail. But in case of a retail agriculture industry, you would need a MSB scale and in the case of the Retail Poultry Industry you would require a PRC scale which is a price computing scale. If you take MSB for the poultry scale or the PRC scale for Retail Agriculture (Grocery) industry, you would be looking at very surprized customers.

  • What is the maximum that you want to weigh.

If you are in the Fishing business and want to weight at the port a tub of fishes, it would range from 60 kgs to 300 kgs. So you have to decide what is the maximum that you want to weight and select the scale accordingly. We always recommend that you take a scale that has a weighing capacity of atleast 20% more than the maximum that you would want to weigh, to factor in the rough handling of the scale by labour and accidental dropping of excess weight on the scale.

  • What is the accuracy that you desire

This entirely depends again upon what industry you are in. if you are making life saving drugs and need an extremely precise scale you would have to buy a very high accuracy scale. So you need to go for a class I scale. On the other hand if you need to weigh grocery, then an ordinary scale with Class III accuracy of 1 gm is also ok with you. So again, it depends entirely upon your industry.

  • What is the product that you want to weigh.

The type of product that you want to weigh decides the shape of the scale that you will purchase. Like if you want to weigh animals, you will need to go for a platform scale. On the other hand if you need to weigh grocery and want to keep the scale on a counter top you will need to buy an HSCo-SSS scale. Also if you have a counter top then you would ideally want to buy an HSCo-MSSP.

Now that we have covered the most important parameters on choosing the weighing scale, log on to or download our HSCo App. You have a suggest a scale option. Type in the four parameters that are mentioned above and the system would suggest the scales that you can purchase for your commercial use.

What is Government Stamping and Why is it So Important?

What is Government Stamping and Why is it So Important?

Before we even address the topic of Government Stamping, we need to understand how important the weighing scale is, to maintain HONESTY in the system.

Say if you go to a local Kirana store and ask for One Kg of Dal. The shopkeeper needs to be sure that he is giving you at most 1 kg of dal if not less. On the other hand, you have to be sure that you are receiving 1 kg of Dal and not less. Now how will you tell that the dal is 1 kg exactly so that its not a loss for either of the parties. It is through a Weighing Scale (preferably a HSCo Branded one ;)). So the weighing scale actually makes sure that the shopkeeper remains Honest, and the customer is given what she has paid for.

Now let’s assume that the weighing scale is not accurate. In this case, it would either show the weight more than the actual weight (in which case the shopkeeper is benefiting) or shows less weight (in which case the customer is benefitting). Hence there is DISHONESTY in the system because the other person is not getting the full value of the transaction.

Here is where the Government comes in place – The Legal Metrology Department to be more specific. What the Government does is, it checks the weighing scale and if it is proper it would seal the scale. So if the scale has a Government seal, you can be sure that the scale is not tampered with. Moreover, the government also issues a certificate of authenticity with the details of the scale and the Legal Metrology Inspector who has verified the scale and in whose presence the scale has been stamped.

So let’s say a manufacturer like Hindustan Scale Company (HSCo) had made a weighing scale and it has passed all its rigorous internal testing. After the scale is checked by the QC team, a government challan is filled paying the requisite fees for the Government Stamping of the scale. A local inspector is assigned the task of verifying the weighing scale’s genuineness. The inspector would come to the factory, check the weighing scales and if the performance of the weighing scale is found to be satisfactory, it would issue a certificate in the name of HSCo saying that the scale is now fit to be used by the public and also put his seal on the weighing scale so it cannot be tampered with. This is true for an Electronic and Mechanical scale. So if the scale is certified by the Legal Metrology Department, then you can be sure that the scale is showing you the correct weight.

Now when Hindustan Scale Co – HSCo is selling and electronic scale to the local Kirana owner, three things would be given. The scale Itself, the Invoice and the ORIGINAL GOVERNMENT CERTIFICATE. The Government also mandates all shopkeepers to display the certificate wherever the scale is being used.

How to read a certificate that is issued by the Legal Metrology Department.

The legal Metrology Department has two types of certificates. One is for Digital Weighing scale that is individual for each scale. So it would have a serial number, other details, etc of a SINGLE WEIGHING SCALE. On the other hand the certificate for mechanical scale is in a lot. Example Hindustan Scale Company – HSCo has manufactured 100 pieces of 20 kg Weights. So HSCo will not be issued 100 certificates. It would be issued a single certificate having the quantity of 100 pcs of 20 kg Weights. The below Certificates would make it clear

Sample Stamping Certificate

Electronic Scale that we manufacture for 300 kgs.

  1. The bar Code that identifies the certificate
  2. Serial No: The serial number of the Certificate. This one will be carried forward in your next certificate once you Restamp your scale at the end of the Renewal cycle
  3. Date: The date when the certificate is issued
  4. Place: Place of stamping. This would be either the inspector’s office or the Manufacturers premises as mentioned in the Pt 5
  5. Manufacturer’s Name and Address.
  6. Inspector’s Name: The inspector who has verified the scale and putting his/her seal on the scale
  7. Receipt No: This is the receipt for the amount that the Manufacturer deposits in the Government Treasury
  8. GRN Number: This is the GRN number when the manufacturer fills the verification fees of the Scales online
  9. Details of the Weighing Scale that is being Verified:
    1. The maximum capacity of the weighing scale. In this scale we have verified a 100/200/300 kg scale.
    2. Make: Hindustan Scale – This is our own manufacture
    4. Class: This is a Class III scale which means that is a medium accuracy scale. Class II scales are high accuracy scales that are used in Jewellery and bullion industry. Class I scales are used for ultra high precision like diamonds and life saving drugs. There is also class IIII scales that are low accuracy scales. These are used for Coal, Hay, etc.
    5. This indicates that this certificate is valid for how many pieces. In this case the certificate is valid for one (1) piece
    6. This is the cost of stamping of the scale. In this case it is 400/-
  10. This is the total fees that Hindustan Scale has paid for this scale.
  11. Date before which the renewal has to be done: THIS IS AN IMPORTANT DATE. IF THE SCALE IS NOT RENEWED BEFORE THIS DATE YOU ARE LIABLE FOR UPTO A FINE OF 25,000/- OR MORE. For electronic scales its one year.
  12. This certificate can be used by the manufacture. In this case it is Hindustan Scale Company
  13. This is the digital signature of the verification inspector along with her division

Absolutely all the points are same as in the case of electronic certificate. The only differences are that in a mechanical scale certificate

  • In the point 9a and 9e there was only one scale. Here there are a lot of weights, one piece of 100 gm, 5 pieces of 20 kg CI Weight, etc. Hence Mechanical scales are verifies and the certificate is given in Lots.
  • Look at the Due Date: In this case when you compare the date of stamping and the date of restamping, the difference is two years. Hence always look at the due date to Restamp the scale.
  • You see, there is an additional charge of 185/- This is the on premise fees. That because the inspector has come to our premise and stamped the weights and hence taken an additional charge of 50% extra to cover his time and travelling expenses. So don’t be suspicious if there is an extra line in the expenses.
